I'm just finishing my Masters in International Community Development; my thesis was case study of a remote indigenous school in Arnhem Land, and the implications of education for community autonomy. I'm also about to become a mum with my first baby... due September 2008. :^) For the last few years, I worked as a teacher in the refugee community in Hobart, Tasmania. We had a lot of students from Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Burundi and Sudan. I have taught all ages, from primary school children to teenagers and adults. I love travelling and have worked as a community educator, teacher or artist in the following communities: Baniyala, Arnhem Land; Atitjere, Central Desert (both Aboriginal communities); Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia; and McLeodGanj, India. My interests include human rights & social/environmental justice, indigenous and refugee issues, cross-cultural public health education and working with survivors of trauma. In my spare time I read novels (I love Arundhati Roy, Salman Rushdie, Peter Carey, and Jonothan Safran Foer), do yoga, spend time with my friends and family, and go camping. Please send me a message if you'd like to write to me via email.
