I had worked as a classroom teacher in Nigeria for 3 years and as an agricultural economist but was looking for a way to combine popular education in a rural setting. So, I decided to work for Canada World Youth for a year in 1982 on an agricultural project. Twenty three years later (several in South Asia) I had tried my hand at a range of jobs: several years in community-based education, training trainers, research and development and finally negotiating contracts with governments and partner organizations. For the past 3 years I have been with the McConnell Foundation, supporting Canadian initiatives to build inclusive and sustainable communities. I am particularly fascinated by the "sport for development" movement; the intentional use of sport for peace-building, public health and social justice objectives. It is much better known in Africa and asia than in Canada but there is plenty of potential for expanding its use here in Canada. Curling rocks: see you on the ice!
