This photograph was taken while building a cottage in northern Ontario with a group of South African Ex-Pats. Hearing their reflections on the differences between Canada’s open spaces and those in South Africa was a revelation.

I have travelled all over the world, but barely ventured out of the province of Ontario. This trip and this photo represent a wake-up call as to the abundance and diversity of natural beauty in Canada. Photography serves works to instantly capture moments like these and this project has made me think more articulately about the small moments of beauty that we can find in simple places if we take the time to look. less «
