Virtual Citizenship, Real Safety (Contest closed Nov 30, -1)

The internet is a place to explore, a mode of communication, a source of information. Many people find and thrive along the information highway, rounds its curves and linkages. Others find a venue for expression and nodes to give voice to their opinions and creative thoughts. People go online to find the latest news, download media and link to others across the world. The web emerges as a place of interwoven connection and oppurtunity. Like any ‘space’ the internet is its own world governed by laws. How familiar are you with the rules of the web? What does it mean to be a good citizen in cyberspace? How can you ensure your own personal safety and still enjoy all the internet has to offer? This month the Global Gallery explores the Cybercitizenship and Online Safety through a poster contest. We want you to create a poster on any of the following topics, or come up with your own idea. Possible topics include:
  • Intellectual Property (creative rights, copyrighted material, and piracy)
  • Identity Theft (when someone takes your personal information and uses that to buy new things, borrow money from a bank, etc.)
  • Cyber Citizenship (accountability for your online actions, truthful representation, cyber bullying and more)
  • Cyber Predators (recognizing the dangers and learning how to protect yourself against people who want to cause you harm)
  • Online Security (understanding what can harm your computer and learning how to minimize the risks)
** The best posters submitted by November 6th, will be eligible for showcasing at the World Summit on the Information Society in November, and viewed by thousands of people! However, the contest will remain open until November 31. **
