Rio+20 Global Youth Music Contest

The Rio+20 Global Youth Music Contest is a global competition for young people organized by the International Association for the Advancement of Innovative Approaches to Global Challenges (IAAI) with a wide number of partners and youth networks on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20 Earth Summit) to be held in June 2012 in Brazil. Rio+20 Global Youth Music Contest encourages youth to express their hopes, concerns and thoughts on future of our earth through the universal language of music as a powerful expression that incites commitment for sustainable development. The contest will collect musical messages from global youth exploring global solutions for sustainable development and the winners will win a trip to Rio de Janeiro to attend the Rio+20 Earth Summit in June 2012 and make the voices of global youth heard through their music.

The content of the music video must be related to at least one of the pillars of sustainable development (environment, economic or social) and we strongly encourage each applicant to link the submission with the Rio+20 United Nations Conference for Sustainable Development www.uncsd2012.org. <br /> <br /> All submissions must be in original form and should not have been published before. <br /> <br /> The length of the music video to be submitted for the contest is limited to two (2) minutes minimum and five (5) minutes maximum. <br /> <br /> All submissions are individual and each applicant will submit only one music video in the appropriate category (Children or Youth). <br /> <br /> For each category, a Group of any size can also participate. However organizers of Rio+20 Global Youth Music Contest can only provide resources for a limited number of representatives to attend events and activities related to awards probably about 3 per group, details will be announced in due course). The group will also designate one official representative who will submit the music video on his/her behalf and will serve as the contact person with the organizers. <br /> <br /> The submission could use any genre and any technical arrangement. Applicants are encouraged to be as creative as possible and to use all technical means to produce/make their music video. However we advise them to at least ensure a minimum good quality so that the jury is able to watch and evaluate the submission and increase their winning chances. <br /> <br /> Music videos can be submitted in any language (national or local) applicants feel competent with. However each submission must be accompanied by a short summary of up to 100 words in English explaining the music video, its theme, its main message and how this is related to the topic of the global contest and the Rio+20 UN Conference. The summary should be added to the online submission form in the appropriate space.<br /> <br /> Applicants can seek support from Regional or National Coordinators near them before submitting their music online. A complete list of these Coordinators can be found online at http://www.glocha.info/images/stories/rio/rio-plus20-gymc_rcs-and-ncs_results.pdf .<br /> <br /> Submission of music video will be possible only online. <br /> <br /> Please note that applicants will be required to fill in an online form to provide their personal information including names, age, nationality, country of residence, profession, mailing address, phone number and email. <br /> <br /> Children are required to send a signed letter of approval from at least one of their parents stating that they agree on the participation of their child to the contest and will allow their participation to the next steps if they are Finalists or Winners. The approval form is to be sent by email to <br /> jeanpaul@glocha.info. Template forms can be obtained by sending an email request to the above address with „‟Template of Approval Form‟‟ as subject of the message. <br /> <br /> Deadline for submission is 15th February 2012 at midnight GMT. Submissions received after this date and time will not be considered.

The award for the overall winner of both categories (children and youth) will be to perform at an official event of United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development UNCSD/Rio+20 www.uncsd2012.org in Rio de Janeiro/Brasil in June 2012.

IAAI plans also to invite the overall winners and about 10 finalists from all continents to perform at a Gala night in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee (Austria) that will be broadcasted live on TV and internet in several countries in combination with a fund raising for global civil society led Rio+20 outcome implementation activities and future Global Youth Music Contest related activities around the world.

National and regional coordinators of the contest will be encouraged to organize Rio+20 Global Youth Music Contest charity concerts.

IAAI will partner with public authorities, philanthropic organizations and business sector to ensure further attractive awards for Rio+20 GYMC finalists. Details will be provided in due course at http://www.glocha.info/index.php/glocha-initiatives/gcsw
