Mt St. Helens
On May 18 1980 Mt St Helens, in Washington state, erupted. The mountain collapsed in a massive rock debris avalanche. A tremendous lateral explosion ripped through the avalanche creating a wind that swept the ridges and flattened trees. Twenty years later the mountainside is beginning to show signs of life among the skeletal remains.
