This is a painting I did of William Gaunt and John Bennett, for the play "Gates of Gold". It is a play by Frank McGuinness about two men who were lovers and started a theatre, the Gate Theatre in Ireland in the 60's. In the 60's it was illegal to be homosexual in Ireland, the play is about their struggle.
