My defining moment occurred a few years ago when I experienced a difficult time in my life. The mental and physical tolls were almost overwhelming and I nearly gave up my university education in Arts Education. When I felt nothing else helped, I turned to find solace in nature and I embraced a new focus on personal wellness. Being outdoors cleared my mind, calmed my soul, and strengthened my body and spirit as I took the time to appreciate this country's natural beauty. I found I got too wrapped up in life to truly appreciate how lucky I was to have access to the clean air, water and vast expanse of land along with the freedom to explore the land and bond with it. The Canadian identity is reflected in my artwork as I feel Canadian people are truly blessed to have abundant natural resources that we may use to improve our lifestyles. There is nothing I can think of that defines Canadian free time as enjoying physical activity in the great outdoors. We enjoy Canada's natural surroundings; calmness and wholeness can be found if we embrace and respect the natural gifts around us. Canadian nature helped me find my identity as it does for others too.
