I am hoping to dual major in Political Economics of Industrialized Societies and Environmental Sciences. While, I have a fairly diversified set of interests, I am currently primarily concerned about the international environmental situation and budget impacts on domestic education. There is nothing more that I hate more than being bored and forcing to endure inefficiency, that feeling of wasting of time. I feel that there are so many small things that can be done, to link up redundant agencies, or streamline organizations in order to make everything much more effective. I enjoy being active and taking on projects. In high school I founded the Multimedia Club as well as serving as President for my school's Model United Nations, Philosophy Club, and Junior State of America Chapter. Outside of my school, I was also the elected East Bay Region Mayor for Northern California Junior State of America, as well as the Norcal State Telecom Director for two years running. I also was a shift leader as a student volunteer for Kaiser and trained for the Emergency Department. I started volunteering with campaigns my junior year of high school. My last year of high school, I also served as the Vice-Chair for my county's youth commission and I will be returning to it this summer as its Coordinator. I am currently involved with my school's ASUC External VP National Department and enjoy lobbying on education. I am hoping to tackle a research project this summer on Californian budget cuts and corresponding effect on the state education. If all goes well, I hope to connect several organizations including my ASUC and the Contra Costa Countywide Youth Commission as well as my local legislators. Additionally, I will be interning for the McNerney campaign for Congress and volunteering with Joan Buchanan's campaign for the Assembly and Mark Desaulnier's campaign for the State Senate, especially having been an inter for Desaulnier's district office last summer. My current project is on public education and I would like to use all the connections that I have to push for a restructuring of how education is funded in California. I learned graphic and web design, as well as photography, in my free time. As someone who likes to be involved, I have developed a wide array of skills integral to running a campaign or organization. Public relations, press releases, communication, and administrative work are all familiar roles. I am primarily interested in politics because I view it as a venue for effecting change. One of the main problems with the world that I have noticed and irks me to no end is apathy. In high school and through JSA, I planned and organized events promoting awareness and political activism. Other than politics, I have been involved in musical activities since I was four years old. I play the flute, piano, and I currently sing with the UC Women's Chorale at Berkeley. For fun, I like to draw, compose music, sing, and write poetry or philosophical/political rants. In the future I would like to find ways to tackle voter apathy, especially concerning youth involvement, and environmental issues. Other topics that I am concerned about and have researched and/or written papers on include IAEA, Political Culture and the Environment, and Taiwanese Identity and the 228 Incident.
