Dipterocarp Tree
Borneo is home to the largest number of Dipterocarp species on the planet. They often emerge from the forest canopy and can reach up to 60 m when mature.
More than 270 species of dipterocarp trees have been identified so far in Borneo.
A striking characteristic of the Dipterocarp family is how rarely and irregularly their plants flower. Flowering only occurs once or twice every decade, sometimes even longer, and happens simultaneously with other trees in the same area.
