Imagine What is Possible

bell hooks, a writer and anti-racist activist, speaking on oppression, once said "Dominator culture has tried to keep us all afraid, to make us choose safety instead of risk, sameness instead of diversity. Moving through that fear, finding out what connects us, revelling in our differences; this is the process that brings us closer, that gives us a world of shared values, of meaningful community." Current events have demonstrated that people possess the courage and power to push for change, to fight for freedom; to challenge prevalent social norms and to find a connection with each other that stretches across race, class, gender, and other threads that make up the fabric of our varying identities, contained within the communities we live in. In honor of the upcoming International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, March 21st, TakingITGlobal is holding this Anti-racism themed Collage Art contest! Contest ends, May 21st, World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. To help guide your creativity, keep this quote from bell hooks in mind: "The function of art is to do more than tell it like it is - it’s to imagine what is possible."
