Light Through Darkness
Dr. Martin Luther King once said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that." I took this picture when I was in Israel, in The City of David's underground water tunnels. The City of David is located right beside East Jerusalem, and we spent the whole time exploring with an armed body guard. It was pretty scarey thinking that somebody out there wanted to kill us, but at the same time I was thinking of the nearby recently approved settlement suburb that was further annexing Palestinian land. It is easy to paint Palestinians as terrorists, without understanding why they are fighting. State violence, "anti-terrorism" is normalized and sanctioned, while those without power are called savages. It is only when we recognize Palestine's right to exist, right to return, and right to defend it's boarders and people that we will cut through these dark times. It is only when we do this that the suicide bombings and killing of innocent civilians will cease. Innocent Palestinians are killed and imprisoned every day but they do not make the papers... their stories and realities are constantly ignored. As JFK once said, "It is only when we make peaceful revolution impossible, that violent revolution becomes inevitable."
