Authors: Amy Zhou, Liaba Jamshed Organization: Volunteer Toronto As artists, we strive to create work that presents a construction of reality incorporating antiquity and literary allusions. We initially wanted to centre the image around the Oscar Wilde quote, “Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.” As a result, the two images of us were used to represent the saint tenderly acknowledging her past and the sinner smiling towards her future. While pondering the theme of antiquity, we realized the most antique element of all, was time. Time is represented in the key stages of life shown in each clock stroke, during which a person can become either a saint or a sinner. We finished the piece with a parchment underlay to exude the overall theme of time being a medium by which we become someone different, and better at each stage of our life. Someone more like ourselves.
